Tank Progression: 60 gallon

Beautiful, complex and discussed here. The marine fish and reef section.

That's gorgeous! Way nicer than mine! :)

Do you have a leveler to see if the tank is level? That's important.

The pipe on the left, where it's entering the sump, can you add a longer piece, so it reached about 3" from the bottom of the sump? Then add rubble in there to break up the micro-bubbles.

How many chambers in that sump? Is there one for a refugium? I wish I had seen a pic of it out of the tank.

Thank you!

If I had the space, like a garage, I'd stain it over a darker color. I just prefer darker when it comes to wood but it does look pretty nice in person. It needs cleaned up a bit and like the hinges could use replacing.

I do not have a level. I'd say I'll be up Lowes later today getting whatever is needed for support so hopefully I'll remember to pick one up then. Just speaking in terms of it being level on the stand?

There is a chamber for a refugium.

Here is a photo of a view from the back, can't see these chambers from the front because of the black piece.

Image

I was told this is the area for the refugium. There is a piece, not in this photo, that is made to hold some sort of LED light for the refugium. Also, the pipe you're talking about adding to is just above the white piece in the photo (above the bioballs). I don't plan on using the bioballs, guess that'd be the place to put the rubble?

Here is more info on the sump and another picture as well.
http://www.thatpetplace.com/eshopps-adv ... mp-300-gal

The black piece on top on the back left (above where the white piece is in the first photo) is where the hoses that came with the sump would hook up but he didn't use those ( I do have them). They're flexible hoses and wouldn't have allowed for use of the plumbing that has the valve. He suggested having the valve, and I believe you mentioned the valve as well.

Hope I made sense trying to explain that.

Just took this photo.

Biggest I've seen the Wellso inflated, 4 1/2 inches across. Torch and Frogspawn are opened up/extended most I've seen as well.

Also, chose this photo cause my puffer managed to get in. :D

Lol. Thanks!

It needs a little cleaning/touching up but does look to be in real good shape. Especially since it was set up and used for quite a while.

Didn't you mention something about an upgrade, planning to?

What is that large area behind the black wall used for?

You got it! ;)

Definitely use valves wherever possible. I really like the corner overflow. Wish mine had that.

I definitely feel as though I'm beginning to get the hang of all this, of course there will always be continued learning.

I was told that area is for the refugium, between the area with the bioballs and the smaller space on the other side holding the sponge. Not sure why that sponge is there though.

Is the corner not standard with built in overflows? Also, is there any benefit to that?

I thought all the tanks I had came across that were listed as having a built in overflow were in the corners, from the responses to the adds on Craigslist I had responded to.

That's what I thought.

My overflow is near the middle.

I'm going to have to look into setting up the refugium and all. I understand the basics but still... I want to see if either of my LFSs can order what I'd need in terms of macroalgae to avoid any shipping costs too.

Also, I'm headed to one of the LFSs here in a few to go ahead and pick up a background. Anything that comes to mind I may need to pick up?

Only thing I can think of at the moment, that I know they have, is getting what I'd need to run carbon. Do I just stick it in a media bag and then into the sump, same section the skimmer sits?

Yeah once upon a time I had a few Goldfish in a 150 gallon tank. Got rid of most of them along with the tank when I moved last summer, wanted to get another for my GSP's but have not found a good deal on one as good as the one I had.

I prefer Purigen, it's already pre-bagged & you can regenerate over & over. It should come in 3-packs somewhere...

Oh okay. Well good luck finding a tank setup like you want, hopefully you won't have to wait too long!

Ah yeah, I knew that. I asked this LFS last time I was there, when I saw the problems with a couple of the corals after that one water change, and they don't carry it.

I'm sure I can get it cheaper online anyway.

Try Amazon or DFS or Petsolutions. Might as well get a 200g box of $alt while you're at it for the free shipping. I think you're gonna need it! ;)

I had been adding on an item or two when I got the 200g box of salt to get the free shipping with the Instant Ocean. I can't remember the exact price of the Reef Crystals, what I plan to buy next, but I believe it qualifies for free shipping on its own. Thats from DFS, that's where I've gotten all my salt so far and a lot of other items. Will look at that.

I've still got a 200g box but obviously theres more water involved now. Wouldn't hurt to have more on hand, especially if I have to deal with a mini cycle or anything of that nature requiring some more than usual water changes.

Glad I have that Brute, the tub only holds around 15g (maybe couple more) that I had been using for WCs on the 60g.

Want to make sure there isn't anything else I need before I place the order, besides salt and Purigen. Not thinking of anything else though.

I just did get the two Koralia powerheads, 1050s, not sure if those two would be enough for the 90g though. Probably wouldn't have went larger if I would have known I was getting the 90g.

Edit: DFS is having a sale on the Reef Crystals now by the way, thought I'd mention.

When you've got the time to look into this & the extra $$$ check out a Seaswirl.

My brother-in-law stopped by to check out the support and figure out what was needed and all. It was too late when he stopped by today but we're going to get that taken care of tomorrow.

If I can get the 60g emptied then we can move the 90g over while he is here as well.

Those are neat. I'm assuming thats what you use?

I wouldn't know which one would be best for the 90g incorporating the two powerheads I have as well.
