Tank hood!

Post by fahucker »

So the old tank hood I had broke :( So I built a new one! I used 1/16" plexi glass and some old trim from my house when we put in wood flooring.
I also put some pieces of small trim on top and glued them on with aquarium safe seal so it wouldn't hurt the fish. The pieces on top hold the fish food and the light on top for the light hood!

Let me know what you think!

Not going to do too well. I tried plex with my SW tank and the heat from the lights warped and burned the plex through. That was 3/8 inch impact resistant too. You can go get a few pieces of tempered 1/4 inch for about $75 from a good glass place.

Plexi warps very easily. Most of my oldest SW tanks were plexiglass and DIY. That turned me against the material.

Definitely not sturdy, but if it gets the job done...
I just order custom-cut cell-cast acrylic sheets from popdisplays on eBay. They hold up well as replacement panels. Although acrylic is lightweight and doesn't really break, I will always prefer glass since it is so difficult to scratch, and to me, looks better.

Yes it does :D Keeps bugs out of it and slows evaporation and the risk of dropping the light in and killing my fish are dramatically reduced!
