I have experienced that my Fahaka treated the other fish like hostages... if he didn't get what it wanted (food) he goobled them one after one .
Better to give them something stimulating to do like putting in some shrimps at night when it's sleeping for it to hunt later on or just putting something odd in the aquarium for it to investigate (not harmful though).
Since my fahaka is so darn curious i try apply some things i've readed that octopus caretakers do with their easily bored squids to make them happy.. not the most difficult things, but some kind of challenge before he get's to the food
Fahakas should be alone. Plain and simple. They should also be in a bigger tank than a 55, 75 or 90 gallon IMO. Mine is about 9" and alone in a 150 gallon tank.

LOL, really? My friends think it's the coolest thing. I also have a Ceylon in a 55 all by himself... I just feed my Fahaka or Ceylon a full grown Cray and my friends just watch in amazement.

Your friends may not know much about keeping fish. You should educate them.
My friends don't seem to be intelligent, diligent, or caring enough to look after anything aquatic. One girl killed her african clawed frogs with gross neglect, but repeatedly claims they died of a calcium deficiency. My guess is she doesn't want to admit, even to herself, that over-feeding, letting the food sit in the bottom and rot for months, over stocking, and doing no water changes for months at a time then cleaning the entire tank all at once, *might* have been contributed to their deaths. She complained that the tank stunk. It was a nauseating story to listen to the first time, but she kept bringing it up. She said, "I forget how I knew they were sick." Then a few days later said, "I remember, they were laying on thier backs on the bottom for a few days, an I thought they were dead, and I was like, 'Oh no!' but they turned over when I tried to scoop them up." They were dead, her boyfriend had to get them out of the tank.
I tried to teach her, but she said that having to clean the tank every few months was horrible and she wouldn't wish it on her worse enemy. So the idea of weekly water changes was sheer madness to her.
Another friend wanted to get some red clawed crabs, and I told her that you can't just throw them in an uncycled tank, that they won't survive, and offered to help her set it up so that she could get them later. But she went to petsmart anyway, because she didn't want to wait, bought a tiny tank, 2 crabs, put a pink bulb in, and bottled water, probably cold. Then texted me the next day saying they both died.
I can't help it, but these things have made me think way less of the 2 of them.
Seven I have the same sorta people at work. They come up asking me questions about fish and then just dont listen.
One of my friends asked what the best algae eater for a 20g would be, I explained cutting back on food and light would be the best, but for a creature I suggested a apple snail or RCS not to get a pleco or something like that. What did she get, a freaking pleco, and she is telling me its already like 6-7inchs.
And everyone looks at me crazy when I tell them I do weekly 50% water changes. Ive had a few try to argue that its unneeded and tell me how they had a fish that lived for ever(4-5 years) and they never did any of that. Then I explain that most fish can live into their teens and they just have that retarded look on their face and I walk away

Also, it really pisses me off how she kept bringing up that she must have taken great care of those frogs since they lived for a whole year, even with the calcium deficiency. She claims she didn't know they needed calcium and was unintentionally getting the wrong food. So I checked some food for frogs, and different fish food, and they all had enough calcium for that type of frog, even the really cheap food. She is either so delusional that she convinced herself that it really was a calcium deficiency to make herself feel better about her neglect, or she thinks I'm an idiot and is just trying to make herself look better since she knows how much I love animals.

Imagine how I feel when I hear a friend bought a puppy at a pet shop & when I try to explain to them about puppy mills, they tell me not to tell them, they don't want to know. All they care is they rescued a puppy that they now love.

what an idiot! im sorry, i have a soft spot for red claw crabs and hermit crabs.
not to mention, hermit crabs are one of the biggest "throw away" pets! i wish gift shops in alabama and florida would stop selling them to tourists. i still feel bad for alwyas getting some without knowing how they were supposed to be cared for.

Believe it or not, so do I. Periodically I just have to set a smallish light BW crab tank. Red-claws and fiddlers are a hoot and fun to watch. Eventually it goes away again, but also eventually another will be set.
