a mbu needs massive filtration. seems to be some confusion on your set up . if u could clarify. this is only a baby mbu we have a small amount of time

please answer was the tank cycled? this could be the problem he will need 1000 gallon when mature but best to get in suitable tank sooner rather than later

i move water from my 100 gallon tank into 65 gallon tank and i also move one hangover filter from 100 gallon to 65 gallon just to keep the bacteria growing. then i added another FX5 filter with my 65 gallons.

that 100gallon tank has being running for over one years

there is one largest aquaclear hangover filter with one Fluval FX5, dont you think it is good enough for a 6" puffer which feed on 1-2 market pawn per day?
with 25%water change every 4-5days.

He can't know if the tank is cycled for sure without test kits. I don't understand how you can be keeping monster fish like you do, without them? I'm glad you've decided to listen--this site has the longest lived puffers on the net! Using water from another tank is like filling up your drinking water jug from the toilet tank.

Maybe you could describe in detail, how you cycled his tank? I'm thinking if you have kept rays for any long period of time, you have large tanks at your disposal & do understand a bit about fishkeeping?

At 6", to prevent stunting, I'd go for a 120g but expect to be setting up a lot of much larger tanks in his future:

OK, this should have cycled the tank then but you still really need to test the parameters. How many rays are in the 100g?

i just have one simple question;

is your MBU puffers active? or is it just sit at one place most of time? thats all i want to know.

I have a fahaka puffer. Sometimes he is resting, sometimes he is swimming all over. Please read those links.

An mbu should be active and "on the hunt". They are considered active swimmers.
His lazy behavior could be an indication of water quality and/or tank size. That is why these 2 things are being mentioned so much. I can't think of any other variable.

that question isnt that simple, ever puffer has a different personality. And since you havent given us your water perimeters we dont know if its due to crappy water

The mbus I have heard of have been active swimmers. The videos of older ones have also been active swimmers. So, while I have no personal experience with mbus I do believe that yours should be more active. So, like SYN mentioned, this has lead many of us to believe that it's a water quality issue.

Why don't you start with doing a 50% water change and use tap water with dechlorinator in it. Don't take water from another tank. Next you'll want to revise it's diet. Get some frozen raw seafood mix from your local grocery store and you can feed that. Feed few foods that contain thiaminaise.

okay, sorry that i might not explain well. initially the 65 gallon water is from my other aquarium. When i do my water change it is from tap water that have being keep over atleast 24hrs in a 150gallon barrel where is is heater to maintain 24 degree and with airstone inside that keeps the water moving. and i wont do 50% water change.
