I have memory problems too and I find that making lists helps. I don't have to make them for everything or all the time but sometimes just making helps my brain slow down and get organized. I also do things to help me remember. For example, to remember to turn the filters on after I feed I leave the tank lid open and often times I'll place things I need on top of the tank. That way it'll catch my eye and if not then I'm forced to go back over and notice that the filter isn't on.

If you can't find a solution you'll learn to cope.

PP, I've had similar experience with Lunesta and Ambien, since I've started taking them I've had a large degradation in memory. I stared with lunesta and the MD switched it because I was forgetting to do simple tasks during the day (like eat) and started on Ambien. The Ambien isn't quite as bad but I do have memory loss within an hour of taking it, wife claims I have said some things I know I didn't say (you know how those spouses are....) ;-)

PP, I understand how you feel - the sheer guilt of 'why didn't I do...?' or ' why did I do...?' Having done things like this myself. Human error...

I've lost a trop marine clown and two coldwater blennies to powerheads in the past couple of years. These days I guard everything even if it's a bit of filter foam cable tied to the powerhead. In trop fw tanks it's an extra filter 8) Even though the flow rate drops and I have to rinse them out once a week on water changes.

I'm also paranoid about my external power filters - either getting blocked (bits of brazil nut for the pacu was one) or fish swimming up them.

All of my pumps have cable ties strapped around them somewhere. Looks very very ugly, but hey :)

I have tried Ambien & my concern is it is an addictive drug.

Have you tried..

Seroquel
tegretol
trazadone?

I think you should start looking into anti-depressants. NOT because of actual depression! But because some those types of medicines work with the serotonin in your body to alleviate symptoms of depression, but also in people without depression, the medicine makes you sleepy..And many of these types of medicines are not addictive

Ambien and all those others IMO are not for people with serious sleep issues..

I'm sooooo frustrated with these so called sleep Drs!!! I did a sleep study about 4 years ago. After 1 night of no sleep & $2,000, guess what their conclusion was? I have insomnia--DUH!!! They never even gave me the number of a sleep Dr or any suggestions. I just asked my Dr for Ambien & then Lunesta. Never had such a good night's sleep as when on those drugs. I am concerned about long term effects though. Which is why I went to a sleep Dr about a month ago. He just said to keep taking it. Never even tried to find out why I have insomnia in the 1st place...

Also, there is NO evidence that marijuana causes permanent brain damage or memory loss.

Marijuana only affects short term memory while the user is high......such as mid conversation the high person stops talking and then says "what was I talking about"

I would be more inclined to believe that your memory loss is linked to a side affect of medication or perhaps a nutritional imbalance..

Growing older does not equal memory loss either...in fact, many people who are older have the same memory capacity as they had when younger....Their speed is slower..but still the same capacity.

Memory loss, especially when linked to older age, is a symptom of a problem, not the problem itself.

Sometimes you just really need to push for what you want and don't take no for an answer. Don't leave until you're happy. Also, do your research ahead of time so you can make educated decisions quickly in the office and also have the ability to suggest things they may not have thought of themselves.

Please, the reason why these doctor's are not helping you much is because they typically deal with people who have temporary sleep problems.

Find a good psychiatrist (one that can dispense medication) and tell them your symptoms...insomnia, chronic insomnia is a symptom, usually relating to an imbalance in the brain....meaning you need a doctor that specializes with problems in the brain.

Since I am a recovering addict with marijuana being my #1 drug of choice, it really is a mute subject for me. Believe me--concrete scientific evidence or not, I know a lot of recovering addicts & their brains are definitely impaired. It is true that menopause itself can cause brain anomalies, during that stage of life.

Check this out..

Because estrogen doesn't play a major part in memory loss or gain, researchers have been looking for other reasons for your brain's fuzziness during menopause. It seems that symptoms of menopause may contribute to your forgetfulness.

Menopause is a time of extreme stress for many women. Weight gain in menopause, hot flashes, mood swings they all contribute to massive amounts of tension. Menopause depression can lead to difficulty retaining and retrieving information. Lack of sleep combined with poor nutrition can make it extremely hard for your brain to keep up.

I like this article, it does say that age and memory loss are natural..which is not true..mental speed and age are natural..but the rest of the article is nice..
