A quick question..

In the past, I would get a puffer better and then turn them on to brackish..

But, I am wondering...a couple of these are 2 in or slightly bigger...

Should I go ahead and give them a little, very little salt?

In this fashion would the salt aid in their recovery..

LOL, a friend of mine posted the other day on Facebook... "YEEESSSSSS! GSP!!!!!"... I automatically thought hmmmm, did she get a puffer?!?!? Or start a marine tank and get some Green Star Polyps?!?!?!?!
Turn out it was a boring UFC thing, George St Pierre...nothing near as much fun a puffers...

Ive been wanting to rescue some of from my walmart... the other day i went into mine and there were 3 dead ones in there. It was late at night so i figured whoever was working had left. No. 2 days later. Same dead fish, plus 2 more. Im outta money but i wanna bring one or two home. Atleast i could make them more comfortable for a while. Where abouts do you live? midwest? You say tornados so i bet you live on the praire : ]

I hope they make it through this!! happy to hear that im not the only one who hates walmart since getting into puffers : P

No, I am in north Carolina..we get the occasional tornado..especially towards the coast...NC has a lot of farm land so even when you get into the mountains there is still a lot of flat land in the foot hills..

About buying and rescuing from Walmart..if you do you might as well buy several..because it has been my experience that most GSPs that are in bad shape at Walmart will die...I would even venture to say 50%..and most unfortunate they will die no matter how good you make things for them...I have come to think of Walmart's fish department as Auschwitz for fish..the do not feed them, they do not treat them if they get sick, they do not care for them..they just hold them...everything is the bare minimum to keep them alive until they make money(well, they do provide water)..they are not a pet store, in fact, as bad as pet stores can get you won't see them be as heartless as Walmart.

Not a good place to buy pets...

If you must do a rescue and you want to save your heart a little buy a juvenile (small) one that has not had as much damage done to it and has a higher probability of survival. And be prepared LOL...Healthy puffs need good water, but sick puffs need very good water every single second. You can't have spikes in levels at all..talking bout testing at least twice a day and frequent water changes..and it also creates a certain level of insanity..which I have developed nicely

Frankly, if you buy some fish from Walmart then you're supporting what they do.

Your best bet would be to avoid them altogether. Don't give them your money.

I've read the article and while I can agree with what it's saying, I still have a problem. It's not the fish's fault that it's in that position, or any other animal that is in that position and I can't just ignore a sick or mistreated animal or fish. I think, to some extent, these stores are going to keep doing what they do anyway.
I know there's 2 sides to this coin. I'm only saying that it's difficult for me to pass up a mistreated animal if I am able to help it.
I'm not saying I'm right or wrong in doing so, just stating how I feel.

I understand. It's a really tough situation. The animal is innocent and deserves to live but if you buy it then 2 more fish will just take it's place as you've now made it profitable.

TALK TO THE MANAGERS. 100% of the Walmarts I've complained about the puffers to have stopped carrying them. Even if it's just writing them a letter. But every time I get dragged to a Walmart the first thing I do if make a beeline for the pet department and check for GSPs. Find the nearest person, ask for a manager (normally at this point a crowd gathers, which is good, since I get to rant at several people at once). Some people are nicer than others, but a month later when I go back to check up on them the GSPs are always gone.

I don't agree. I believe because of all their losses, is why so many Walmarts are shutting down their fish depts.
