GSP not eating... help

Since this board has been up, we have found there are several questions that routinely get asked in order to help diagnose problems. If you can have that information to begin with in your post, we'll be able to help right away (if we can!) without having to wait for you to post the info we need.
1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate). This is by far the most important information you can provide! Do not answer this with "Fine" "Perfect" "ok", that tells us nothing. We need hard numbers.
2) Tank size and a list of ALL inhabitants. Include algae eaters, plecos, everything. We need to know what you have and how big the tank is.
3) Feeding, water change schedule and a list of all products you are using or have added to the tank (examples: Cycle, Amquel, salt, etc)
4) What changes you've made in the tank in the last week or so. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.
5) How long the aquarium has been set up, and how did you cycle it? If you don't know what cycling is read this: Fishless Cycling Article and familiarize yourself with all the information. Yes. All of it.
We want to help, and providing this information will go a LONG way to getting a diagnosis and hopeful cure that much faster.
While you wait for assistance:
One of the easiest and best ways to help your fish feel better is clean water! If you are already on a regular water change schedule (50% weekly is recommended) a good step to making your fish more comfortable while waiting for diagnosis/suggestions is to do a large water change immediately. Feel free to repeat daily or as often as you can, clean water is always a good thing! Use of Amquel or Prime as a dechlor may help with any ammonia or nitrite issues, and is highly recommended.
Note - if you do not normally do large water changes, doing a sudden, large water change could shock your fish by suddenly changing their established water chemistry. Clean water is still your first goal, so in this case, do several smaller (10%) water changes over the next day or two before starting any large ones.

So i have GSP who's not eating and it looks like it's chowing. It doesn't look like it's teeth are to long but I'm not 100% sure on that. It's swimming around just fine. Please Help.

Any chance of a photo, so we can see the mouth? That might help. Also, what do you mean by "chowing" ?

Re: GSP not eating... help
OK so water parameters i have to get the water tested i don't have a test kit. It's a 10 gal brackish tank with 2 gsp and ghost shrimp (they don't eat them). I feed them 2 times a day flake food or blood worms or sun dried shrimp. I do a 10% water Chang every week. This tank has been set up for about a mouth now. I've had the gsp for 7 mouths now. I cant get a good photo of it yet I'll keep trying on that. The last time i feed it snail there was Trumpet Snails. Thanks

Re: GSP not eating... help
Well just a couple things .... first of all, on a 10-gallon tank with 2 GSP's in it, you should be changing at least 50% of that water weekly. I would cut out the flake food entirely and feed bloodworms, shrimp and definitely snails, but not the trumpet snails, their shells is too hard and can't actually break a puffer's teeth. Get some pond snails or ramshorn snails, they are good ones.
And really I think a 10-gallon is probably too small for 2 GSP's. You need a much bigger tank if you are wanting to keep them both. So that's something you need to consider.

Re: GSP not eating... help
Please read the articles I linked you to. They are very important.
You really need a test kit. They are crucial to owning puffers.
What kind of salt are you using to make the water brackish?
Water changes should be done at 50% per week on a puffer tank.
How did you cycle the tank?

Re: GSP not eating... help
Do you mean he his sort of stretching his lips over his teeth? He could have cracked a tooth on the hard shells of the mts - prob not alot you can do - would have to anaesthetise him to look & maybe trim any sharp edge. Could have a piece of food stuck?

I'd suggest getting someone to help you that has a little experience trimming puffer teeth, they would better know what to look for and help.

Sorry to hear that.Maybe he starved and the nitrate level was really high with 2 gsp in a tiny (semi) un cylced tank
