i am purchasing the tank from someone else today and i'm not sure how long he's had the soil in there. if i monitor the parameters for a couple weeks without finding any ammonia spikes, would it then be safe to add my dwarf puffer?

yes..if the ada soil is freshly add it never been use. You'll get ammonia spikes for weeks or months. Depending on how many water change you do to get rid of it. Otherwise you're safe.

well depends on what kind of puffer. Not all burrows. Especially not DP's The substrates will not effect any puffer long as is aged.

Im not surprise you know what P.L.U.R. means after all you are from Vancouver
