Salt Creep on odd spot

Hey guys, for some time I've been seeing salt creep on the bottom front of Harry's tank. It's where the wood and glass meet and it goes verticle a bit. There's also salt along the bottom of the glass on that side but it's horizontal. I don't remember, but I'm concerned that's the side I resealed last summer. I'll mark it if I ever reseal another tank.

Anyway, do you think this tank is getting ready to explode?

I doubt it. For some reason I have salt creep on the front of my tank in the same place. It's probally from when we work in the tank water drips down to the trim and when it dries leaves salt creep. I would just watch my water level to see if the tank is leaking. Hope this eases your mind.

I dunno girl. I wipe it off and it comes back. I don't mess in Harry's tank at all until I clean it. It's an odd shaped tank and I hate the lid. A very OLD tank, they don't make them anymore. Besides that, Harry freaks out and tries his best to jump out everytime I start messing around the tank.

I hope I'm right too. Could you possibly have some water dripping from the lid? My old tank had a weird lid and dew would build up on it and drip down the tank.

I really don't think that's what it is.

My 75gal is doing that and I'm about to go insane. I've got hard water deposits streaming all down the glass on that one side. It's dripping from under the wood. Vinegar isn't working to get the minerals off the glass and everytime I go check there's always a small stream of water. grrrrrr

I'm wondering if there's a real slow leak on Harry's tank. I keep debating on setting up the 43gal. I need a stand. I've never had water in it so I'd have to check it first. It's the one a friend drug out of the garbage about 20yrs ago. Really, I've had it that long and never had water or fish in it. My oldest moved his gerbils out of there recently.

What did you do about that drip? This morn I put some silicone on it. I'm hoping the water level is low enough for the glass to stay dry so the silicone will work.

Well, its either condensation forming up top and dripping down, or you dribble a little when you fill it at water change time, or its a slight leak.

What I would do, personally, is first fold up a paper towel and wedge it under the lid above this salt spot.. see if that paper town ends up wet or dry. If its wet, its probably coming from up there. If it stays dry, but your spot down below still shows up, it may have a slow leak.

I doubt even if its leaking that its getting ready to explode. I had a 29 with a weird plastic bottom to it that would release the silicone after a year or so. The weight of the water and gravel held it down and it never leaked, but every time I'd tear the tank down to change it or move or whatever, I'd have to reseal the bottom. I eventually threw it out because it was a pain in the rear...

I have salt creep on mine too... I think mines a leak though, cause I don't dribble and the lid is sealed so no leak there...

Just as Myaj said mine was condensation forming up top and dripping down. I just lowered the water level about 1/4" and it stopped.
