ceylon and his new friend...

Post by t1gerbee »

So i went and picked up one of the GSP's that needed a new home...

i was very worried, the stories of aggression had made me very wary of putting my lovely ceylon at risk...

so bought loads of new plants to stuff the tank with, split the decor into two distinct territories... and had the melafix on hand...

but all was well...

I don't pretend to humanise fish, but they 'appear' to really like each other... they hang out together, they follow each other round, they sleep in the same root...

it's very suprising... what's also surprising is that my ceylon has had a white belly since adding his new friend... even with the lights on....

It's been a few days and there are no ripped tails, both are eating well, white bellies all round and the new puff is in remarkably good condition, even a little fat. (his belly is full all the time, not just after eating....)

so here we are, i introduce... little puff.... :-)

and here are big puff and little puff hanging out....

Love em, i now have two little buzzing smiles watching me when i wake up each morning....

His tail is really cool. I haven't seen a tail that has such dark spots, very nice :)

That looks like a large, impressive GSP, what is he, 3", maybe a bit more? Sometimes slightly different puffers may not set off each other's territorial instincts as much, but they might do so more, and you never know how it will change with time. Shakespeare is individual on tankmates, but invariably leaves much littler puffers totally alone.
No matter how magnificent your successes or devastating your failures, the worlds' approximately 5 billion impoverished people could not possibly care less.

That's a really great looking GSP. I love how the spots go all the way back onto the tail.

the bigger one is a ceylon puffer... or another name for it is topaz... he's about 5 inshes excluding tail... nearer 6 if you include the tail.

the smaller one is a GSP...

I swear they are in love.. (i know, soppy girl...)

but they sleep in the same place, and when the little one starts pacing (new to tank), the bigger one swims over and gets up along side him, then brings him down to the bottom of the tank, and they sit side by side for a bit, i swear he's reassuring the little one...

then they both cruise off together and go exploring. Madness. :-)
