Confirmation of puffer species!

Looks like Tetraodon cutcutia. A species which can have an ocellus, but so far it seems unclear if it belongs to the target or Monotrete genus.

Remember this is a juvenile and it does not have it's full color yet.

Yunachin, the one in the picture you've posted is certainly no M. cochinchinensis, but one of the long snouted species of the genus like M. leiurus.

when my friend ordered them to his store they came with a label that said target puffer.

"target puffer" and "red eye puffer" are confusing identifications given to number of species. Their use indicates that the collectors, exporters and transshippers don't know what it is and are not interested in knowing.

Looking at the pictures in this thread again I'm pretty sure these puffers are Tetraodon cutcutia. Try breeding them, with proper care and if you have a couple the chances are good.

I agree with Corvus a member called Kass on here had what a Cutcutia and the mottled pattern and gerneral colouration was the same as that, it was only a baby, would like to see a pic of it now but not seem Kass round for a while.

I only have one at the moment. Im not sure if I can add a couple of more since the tank is only 30 gallons.

Right, they can be aggressive, so a 30 gallon may be too small to breed them.

It was a photo on fishbase. I was just browsong for some look a likes and that was the one I found.
It's good you found the species though!

30g should be fine for your puffer for life. The pleco is not protected from being dinner either.
