I wouldn't use the tank light. Tank lights are VERY bright and the water in rivers, lakes, etc do not have nearly that amount of light coming through the water. My gsp Ralph sleeps in the dark. If the light is turned on for just a couple seconds he starts to wake up, I feel really bad turning on the light for a minute because of this - it really seems to confuse him.
