Re: do dwarf puffers puff?
I haven't seen a DP puff but my F8 does often but only when pooping. He/She'll puff up and then out flys the poop and then he/she deflates and carries on as usual. I'd video record it but I think it's an invasion of privacy. I really should video it considering I could be ready in 2 seconds or less ...

Playing dead??
Hi all! It's been a WHILE since I've posted anything but I'm happy to read posts and haven't had anything unusual to report. I have 1 F8 in a 12gallon Eclipse system. It's been cycled and he's been in it for approaching 18 months. Ammonia is 0 -- and it's the only test I have on hand. The tank has b...

Dwarf Puffers -- and Hello from Cooper
Hey all! LONG time since I posted. Moved from L.A. to North Carolina and back with Buzz my Fig 8 Puffer. He's now living with a friend in L.A. and doing well. He's with a friend as I had an opportunity to do a consulting job in Mexico City. Flying back to L.A. (A.K.A. the real world) tomorrow after ...

Sorry for the silence -- puffer move update!
Hey all! I haven't hardly logged on since November but thought you all should hear the update. Buzz the F8 and I moved from Los Angeles to Charlotte in December. It went swimmingly! (groan/hiss I know) I moved him from my office aquarium to a 5 gallon acrylic aquarium along with all of the media, ab...

Thanks for the clarification PetPirate! I checked and they range from 25-150w that I could find for under $30. I added it up and I should only use 75w so I'm hoping 140 (being almost double) is a good idea. I'll set up the tank with fresh water and drive around with it for a few days before to make ...

The Transcontinental F8 Puffer Move
Let me know your thoughts. If it sounds too risky I'll find another way. I have over a month to make alternate arrangements. I'll be moving from Los Angeles to Charlotte, NC in December. I've had an F8 for about 2 months now (I think??) and I don't trust any of my friends to make a weekly 50% water ...

Mine only paces when I'm near the tank and though he may pace 2-3 sides of the tank, I'm pretty sure that's it. When i'm away from my desk and look from across the room, he's exploring the interior of his little world. Spy on your F8 away from where he can see you and see if maybe it's just a food-b...

This fish store is very interesting. All of the tanks are SeaClear with clear tops with a rectangular hole in the top and filtration intake/output drilled in through the backs. The lighting is all overhead flourescent lights and sky-lights. They don't seem to have any luck selling these guys. There ...

I'm very happy with 15 to 40 gallon tanks. So here's a slightly off topic question. If you have a 1000 gallon aquarium, surely you don't do weekly 50% water changes? Right? Just how does that work. When I had my 40 set up, weekly 20 gallon water changes just about undid me and got everything in the ...

Amonia remover (white rock filter pack) misshap . . .
Not sure what to do here. Last week I set up my reserve of brackish water for my F8. I make my own filter with floss, carbon and ammonia remover (not sure why I did it -- I don't think there's ammonia in my tap and have never had a problem -- maybe just being overly cautious.) At any rate, I rinsed ...
