Re: MBU temp tank Size question + Growth Rate

I think the 1000 gallon tank size for Mbu is overkill. For a "trout like"fish it would be needed but Mbu's swim like helicopters and do not need the space other fish do.What you need is filtration enough for the 1000 gallon.

Re: Mbu puffers together with other Mbu's?

I tried to keep two in a 350 gallon years ago . No blood spilled but one bullied the other some. viewtopic.php?f=56&t=16993

Re: Can MBU eat fish???

Mbu's are all different. Some are very peacefull while others are more aggressive.Ziggy is very peaceful and has never harmed another fish but my smaller mbu will somtimes attack bottom fish if he goes to long between meals.I would say in most cases roseline sharks will get along fine.Mine do!! http:...

Re: Advice....

I went over to monster fishkeepers .com and read an old thread on mbu and rays as tankmates.Several people had tried it and all either seperated them or ended up with an eyeless or chewed on ray, or a dead mbu.One guy even tried it with 3 different mbu before giving up.......I gotta believe separate...

Re: Advice....

I have never tried it but I have heard its a bad idea. Puffers do like to look in the sand for molusks, and some mbu have been known to nip at bottom dwellers.Either of these things could cause a ray to strike back in a fatal responce. My mbus like to rest on the sand for the night ,what if a ray was ...

If they had no issues being together why didn't you leave them together? Was it just an experiment or is that your future plan?

Re: mbu experiment

Nice one Can I see some pix of the new little guy Also why don't you put him in with Ziggy so that he's used to being with her, or do you think he'd also be scared of her? Here is a picture of the new guy.I think he is way to small to go in with Ziggy http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w128/oldkoif...

Re: mbu experiment

usually they are so laid back im sure a with a few dates they will get along. That may be true but I have already taken more drastic action. A friend of mine had a Small 5-6" Mbu in his 750 gallon tank.He has some larger fish and his mbu was intimidated.I proposed a mbu swap and now he has a l...

That is what I was expecting with mine.Perhaps the new one had a bad prior experiance or just has a bad attitude. But I'm not giving up with the plan of two mbu together.

That is not a optical illusion.Ziggy while only 4"longer is 3 times more total body size (diameter).

Re: How long does it take for a Mbu to grow to 2.5ft?

The factors that determine growth are genetics, food amount and quality, water temperature, water quality, exercise and lack of stress........When Ziggy was smaller she grew 1" per month for several months. But now with fewer feedings and her larger size her growth has slowed.I would guess Ziggy is...
