Say Hi to Dwaine my Mbu!

Post by Bogwoodbruce »

Hiya just thought id show off my Mbu. Got him around 3 weeks ago from Maidenhead aquatics @ The dukeries garden centre. He was around 4" inc tail then hes around 4,5" now maybe even 5". Hes currently living in a 6x2x2 with an assortment if fish inc 22 clownloach, santanoperca, african tigerfish, L#'s and a few other bits. Hes the main guy in there. I keep an array of fish and have loads of setups. But he is without a doubt in my top 3 best fish ive ever kept. Along with My lungfish and Peacock bass (cichla sp)

His next tank will be my 6x4x2 trop pond which has been running for nearly a whole year now. Hes feeding very well, on bloodworm, squid, mussle, prawn etc.... Im getting some shelled cockle and mussle through the store that i work at. Im staff at Fish INC in sheffield just incase any members go there.

I tried to think of a name and i posted some pix of him over on Monsterfishkeepers. And a member said it wont be long before he gets his big geeky teeth..... I dont know if there are any red dwarf viewers but, if you do you will know the character 'Dwaine dibley' I named him after him as they both have big teeth! sorta origonal lol.

I forgot to say. The shop is getting a feature an article in next months Tropical Fish magazine. As im the shops photographer im allowed a picture of one of my fish in. Needless to say Dwaines gonna make an appearence so keep an eye out for him if your a reader.

Just wanted to show him off. Ive got loads of pix wont bore you with em all so just a few...

Wow. I want a LFS that great! Dwaine is really cute. Congratulations!

What kind of a camera is that? Those are great closeups.
"I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him or her. Will she gain anything by it? Will it restore her to a control over her own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to freedom for the hungry and spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

Great shots, he's a real looker! If that pond isn't built yet, I'd make it 6x4x4', 700g (2700L), as he should grow longer than 2' & he will get "bent" from trying to turn around in a 2' pond & it certainly isn't large enough for him & all his tankmates. Even better, would be 6x6x4, 1000g (4000L). Also, 22 CL at 1' each in 6x4x2', 300g (135L) tank, could out out a ton of bioload eventually.

Check out our articles stickied in this forum about mbus & also in our Library.

I still say that isn't enough room for the puffer or dilution to the waste produced by an adult mbu & the tankmates you have. Did you read those 2 articles?

I understand my friend... dont worry theres another upgrade to come yet. Hes not doing too bad i mean hes already got a 6x2x2 with an upgrade ready i mean theres some mbu on here in much smaller tanks with no upgrade.

The pond currently only has 9 fish in there and is mega overfiltered as is the tank hes currently in.

Its a 6x2x2 with a fluval FX5, tetratec ex1200, eheim 2213 classic canister and internal pearl 80 filter with twice weekly waterchanges... not bad hey?

I think its an individual puffer thing - Winston ate the giant ones once, but not bothered since. I think he thinks they're too small to bother with!

Also, Dwaine is a gorgeous looking Mbu! Very cute :D
