Treating IPs on a fish that it extremely infested can be difficult. Having such a large amount of parasites die inside your body can be very stressful and cause death on it's own. Either way I think you did the right thing. The fish were obviously very drained and nearing death anyways.

That's exactly what you're looking for. Soak their food in it for an hour or two before feeding. You might need to add some garlic extract to mask the flavor of the meds.

I would probably treat 3 times, a week apart.

Another possibility could be one of the electric devices (heater, pump, etc) randomly leaking small amounts of current into the water. IME it's more common than people think.

IMO you should be doing much larger water changes. I would do at least 15 gallons every 5 days on a tank that size with a ceylon. How long was the tank set up for in the first place?

Have you tested your tap water for ammonia? If you're on a well, it's not uncommon to have ammonia in the tap water.
