Re: problems breeding snails

I actually had a problem breeding snails for my pea puffer when I fed them veggies/algae wafers. Luckily dp's don't depend on snails to keep their beaks down so it wasn't a problem for me. I actually had a ten gallon that unintentionally became a snail jail for a friend of mine who kept puffers. The...

Hairy puffer?

Hey everyone, I have a 40 breeder tank and I'm thinking a hairy puffer might be a good fit for me. I've read they are not very active, and I was hoping to see if anyone had any personal experience with them. According to PufferPedia they get 7 inches, and I wanted to make sure the 18" width of ...

Re: 40 Breeder Freshwater Puffer Suggestions?

Hmm, found one on aquabid, but it was for 65.00. I forgot puffers tend to be pricey. I might have to lurk around the freshwater sub-forum some more to get some ideas

Re: 40 Breeder Freshwater Puffer Suggestions?

I would prefer a solo fish, and the beak growth kind of scares me. How hard would it be to find a hairy puffer? I know they're not active, but they look friggin adorable.

Re: 40 Breeder Freshwater Puffer Suggestions?

I would, but I'm a huge fan of planted filtration. My 40 breeder is essentially run off planted filtration, which keeps tank maintenance relatively low for me. I'd love a GSP, but I'd rather stick to fresh and not have to worry about getting all the equipment that goes along with doing salt. I've ke...

40 Breeder Freshwater Puffer Suggestions?

I have a freshwater 40 breeder setup, and my current wet pet jumped ship and I found him on the floor. I've been trying to think of a replacement fish and I realized my favorite fish by far has been the dwarf puffer I had in college. I was hoping you guys could give me some good suggestions on a rel...

Is pufferpedia up and running now? It still doesn't work for me

Re: Beginner Horror Stories

I threw a senegal bichir in my twenty gallon community fish tank at the assurance of the lfs that senegal bichirs were only opportunistic predators and would not go after alive fish. After waking up the next morning and finding half my fish gone I figured it was time to start doing some research, an...

Re: How many snails a week?

well I guess I better start upping the snail consumption. So far he's been probably eating 4 or so snails a week. I'm getting a snail population going in another tank at my college, so I'll have easy access to them when i feed. So far I've been bringing snails from home on the weekends, as I'd rathe...

How many snails a week?

How many snails should I be feeding my young GSP a week? So far I feed snails as 2 meals for 2 days out of the week, so he gets offered about 4 snails one day, and 4 the other, but he usually doesn't eat all of them(they fall in the live rock). Also, I was wondering if anyone's tried guppies in a ma...

should I be feeding my gsp snails every day?
So far I've been feeding about 4 snails 2 days out of the week, but he usually only eats 1-2 in front of me.
I've been feeding a mix of frozen mysis shrimp and bloodworms every day.

Re: He Ate!

He is turning into quite the pig. I think I almost put too much in the tank today, and I was having trouble getting him to eat Monday with the same amount of food. I've kept dp's before, but never had to worry about beaks overgrowing, have a quick question regarding beak growth. How many snails shou...

Re: New Generation of Crayfish

How big do they get? Could they fit in half a 30 gallon sump if I made sure to block off the pump from them?

Re: He Ate!

yep, I'll be waiting a few months before even considering adding one. But with 150 gallons, and a ton of live rock, plus a refugium in the sump I think i'll be able to cultivate enough to keep 1 fed.

Re: He Ate!

Will most definitely be getting pods in the tank. Planning on getting a mandarin in the non-puffer tank, so will be buying them anyways to seed the tank. Ate bloodworms today, and is looking nice and plump! Coloration is getting much brighter, and I'm feeling pretty good about the whole transition. ...
