they are in my 40g breeder, so they have space (and plants, logs, caves, etc.).
perhaps the "pale puffs" that no longer sport clear, defined spots are just males? it's just weird (to my eye) that their entire bodies' look "washed out".

pale pea puffs?
so, after the very sad losses of 2 F8s and 1 GSP for reasons i couldn't determine -all from this same local shop, the only place that has had any puffs near me (anyone know a responsible and reliable shop around chicago?) i've gotten some DPs. the first F8 i never treated for IPs, s/he lasted over o...

Re: filtration
Turnover are only important in relation to efficiency. Folks try to compare turnovers without considering efficiency. For example HOBs are notoriously inefficient, so required high numbers of turnovers per hour. Canisters are much more efficient, so require fewer turnovers per hour to do the same j...

Re: filtration
Luna, I also heard great things about those rena filstars too and came close buying one but with it being pricey. I sadly had to turn away. yeah, they do seem to run a bit steep. but i've managed to find the XP3 level at various places online for $120 USD or less (including shipping) -the same thin...

Re: Old crusty glass box...
Soak newspaper in vinegar & leave on the surfaces overnight. hey i just had to "renew" or replace a spray bar for major hard water crust. wrapped it in paper towels and left with the end in a pitcher of cider vinegar for wick effect (wet it all first w/vinegar and also had lill' crust...

Re: filtration
hey, this may seem to come out of left-field, but my years of turtle keeping have made me a HUGE fan of the rena filstar XP line for high-waste-making freshwater critters. i have routinely used XP3's for everything from 30-100g (USg) turtle tanks -yeah, i mostly "super over filter" those s...

Re: Sometimes it's better Not to be honest!
My post was suppose to say snail tank, not snail tail! I put some baby cherries in with my SAPS lady night and they didn't even last 30 seconds. Looks like I'm gonna get a small tank for cherries now. I'm also gonna tear down my snail tank and start over bare bottom i'm glad your SAPs enjoyed their...

Re: Sometimes it's better Not to be honest!
Sigh, that shrimp forum must have got to my fiance. Instead of puffer food, I have a cherry shrimp family member named Bubba Gump. -wait- you guys have just one single, lonely cherry shrimp? please inform your fiance that they only live 1-2 years, dependent on habitat temp and food quality. 2 years...

Re: Sometimes it's better Not to be honest!
Well, that answers my question as to why my snail tail suddenly stopped producing :(. Gotta get another tank now...:) i just started a new snails only "tank" when i noticed that they were vanishing in with the shrimp. i'm actually now just using a rubbermaid with 2-3g of water, a homemade...

Re: Sometimes it's better Not to be honest!
oops! just re-read and saw that you did pick cherries. sorry for missing it. i say throw in some ghost shrimp too (it's hard to know what species you've been sold, as we've seen here before
@ srkoe) and just observe if they breed, grow into monsters, or whatever
