Colomesus asellus - How to avoid dentistry?

One of my LFSs appears to have South American Puffers for sale. From my research, they seem almost ideal, except I do not like the prospect of dentistry. I already have a snail breeding tank set up, and will most likely be able to supply a daily pond snail or two. My question to other SAP owners is ...

Where from?

Where did you find them? Although I'm not in Chicago, I'm hopeful one of my local chains might end up with some.

Clarity

I'm shying away from eggcrate and screen, as clarity is pretty important on this aquarium.

Has anyone seen an F8 jump higher than 4"? If so, I'm thinking just a length of acrylic, cut to fit the top with a small opening around the filter flow area. That's enough for oxygenation, right?

Figure 8s - How high can they jump?

I'm setting up an aquarium for an F8, and due to the design of my arrangement, an open top would be perfect (with a glass top hovering about 2.5" above the top of the aquarium. I have a 20 Long tank, currently filled 75%, so I basically have a 4" "wall" around the surface of the ...
