I'm setting up an aquarium for an F8, and due to the design of my arrangement, an open top would be perfect (with a glass top hovering about 2.5" above the top of the aquarium. I have a 20 Long tank, currently filled 75%, so I basically have a 4" "wall" around the surface of the water followed by 2.5" of open air before the glass ceiling.
Would this 4" of barrier be enough, or do I have to break down and get some acrylic or something over the top of this tank?

My F8 "Elvis" has jumped out during a water change (about 2 1/2") - fortunately, I was watching him the whole time and caught him with my left hand and he did not inflate, being out of the water for only a second. I'm thinking about doing water changes for him with a baseball glove on.
If you can't do a solid top, can you do a screen top?

I'm shying away from eggcrate and screen, as clarity is pretty important on this aquarium.
Has anyone seen an F8 jump higher than 4"? If so, I'm thinking just a length of acrylic, cut to fit the top with a small opening around the filter flow area. That's enough for oxygenation, right?
