GSP, Ceylon and experiences with other tankmates

Unfortunately, its not merely a matter of them getting along, but also of bioload. I fear having those fish together in such a small tank is likely to have stunted them. At 3 and a half years of age, the GSP should be full size of about 6 inches, and the Ceylon should be full size of about 8 inches, so a 30g tank is far too small for them.. In addition, they should be in high end brackish water, if not full saltwater, and the goby needs low end brackish, so they’re not compatible long-term if their health and wellbeing is to be considered.

Exactly as Boxermom said. That tank is barely large enough for one full grown GSP, with no tankmates, and at this age, he should certianly be in full marine conditions.

If you can get a 75, that would be just about perfect for the GSP and ceylon.

What are your nitrate readings? You must be doing water changes every other day to keep them under control.

Thanks for the lovely info but there were a few times when I found myself tisking and the two lovely ladies before me have covered these points. I hate for you to feel we are having a go but based on the many accumulated years of experince this forum has the benefit of you really should reconsider your set up. I applaud your intentions in rescuing the ceylon but you are on borrowed time I think unless you get a bigger tank, both your fish do seem stunted to me, sorry. Also the idea feeding live fish is dangerous as they may introduce infection to the tank and its also a bit unfair in my mind to feed live fish.
