As the other tank had been cycling for a few days but was warmer, and had a mature filter in it i took the remainder of her tank water and put it in there and moved her over to the new tank. With all her caves and plants etc. It also had a huge snail population from when the tank was used for my tropicals, i moved them all back in as food for her after i had cleaned the tank and re set it up
While trying to acclimatise her to the new tank, she bit the plastic bag she was in and made a huge hole on it, so she ended up in the tank proper sooner than i wanted.
She swam about inspecting everything and discovered the huge snail population that was in there. Started feeding straight away, which is good as she has hardly eaten much with being off co lour this past 2 weeks.
While checking on her this morning she seems fine, however i found a platy fry in the tank, alive. How?
The tank was totally emptied and cleaned between my tropicals being in it and puff going in. So all my plat ties have been out of the tank for a while. So how on earth did the fry a) live in a empty cleaned out tank, b) survive the water changes and everything going back into the tank and c) a night with my Suvatti!
I wish i had not had to move her over just yet, she seems to be doing well and I will be keeping a very close eye on her while she settles in to her new home. Obviously water tests will be daily for a while and water changes will be as required until the tank is stable again. But has anyone else had to do an emergency puffer move before now? How did your puff cope, and what sort of signs of distress should i be looking for? What were your experiences?
This poor girl has been ill, lost a mate and had a big tank change in the last couple of weeks and needs a better run of luck for a while i think!
