i have F of 8 and need help for a beginner please help

hi im just wanting some help really, ive heard you can hand feed figure of eight puffers is this true ? do they not bite ? are they poisoners like the mbu puffer ? mine are in brackish water three of them and they get on great,,, also i hear they like snails is this pond snails, garden snails ??? not sure please help, also how much salt do you use per gallon of water as keep hearing different things, sorry to ask so much but its only cos i care so much about my little fellas..
