puffers and snails

my puffer is gsp i bought him some snails and they are as big as his head and then i read on here that they need to be the size of their eye. now that's a small snail he likes the ghost shrimp to if hr can catch them. He was nipping at the snails but they were so sunk so far in their bodies like help somethings attacking us . They haven't come out of the shell. dunno can anyone help,,,,, whats the name of the snails i have to ask for ?????????????????????????????????????????????????"

You'd be best with pond snails. There is a list of good foods for your puffer & other articles on care & feeding in our Library. Look around there & have fun learning about your puffer!

IME most puffer can take on fairly large size snails., much bigger than their eye. You will get to know what is too big for them but for me a general rule would be that the snail can be as big as their head.

What kind of snails did you buy??, apple snails /mystery snails? (post a pic if unsure)

As mentioned common pond snails or ramshorn snails are the most common ones used.

Both are generally nuisance snails, not usually sold as pets or food...but found as an infestation of the LFS planted tanks or poorly maintained stock tanks
...you should not have to pay for them...many stores are happy to get rid of them.
