Purple stuff on rock??

Post by Dan06 »

I have a large rock in my tank, over the course of the past couple weeks the top of it became jet black & this morning I noticed some purple stuff was growing on it...what in the world is it?

Water parameters are fine. Salinity is 1.0008

May be BGA, blue-green algae, which comes in multiple colors from near-black to various reds and greens. If it feels slimy and breaks loose like a sheet when brushed, it is BGA.

Im assuming its not live rock you have used, this is purple where the "live" bits are.

It is not live rock.

I should have mentioned it's not live rock, it is a manufactured piece.

It does not come off easily. It is definitely not any color other than purple, it has a 'crystal' appearance to it also.
