Ive had my valentini puffer for around a year now in my reef tank, and he is by far my favourite fish. he is really peaceful and never bullies any of the other fish. my yellow tang, sailfin tang and him always hang out together!

ive been trying to decide whether to add another puffer to the tank for awhile and at the LFS the other day i saw a small coronata puffer that i just couldnt resist.

its been about two weeks and they get along fine- neither of them show any aggression to each other and they even hang out and "hunt" together sometimes! the coronata doesnt eat any of my corals or snails either, so everything is going really well at the moment.

just thought id post some pics.... my valentini is a bit overweight i know :redface:

fantastic looking tank there with some great puffers. Looking at your tank I bet you are quite happy that the fish are leaving your corals alone too

What size tank is that? Looks great! I wish the Valentini I had was as nice as yours! He was a real aggressive little thing.

Thanks for the comments guys! The tank is 75g, its 5ft x 1.5x 1.5. It looks a bit full at the moment because im about to upgrade to a 5ftx2ftx2ft tank.

ill post some full tank shots so you can see the whole tank.

I'm impressed! What's the red coral at the top right? It's hard to believe the toby doesn't pick on anything. That's only 75g? Looks way bigger than my 90.

The red coral at the top right is a form of brain coral. It looks similar to this one..

I bought the coral about a month ago and it has faded a bit because i only have t5 lighting at the moment. in the new tank it will be under metal halides so hopefully it will colour up again.

The tobies occaisonally pick at the harder corals, like the brain coral or the brain worm corals, but they dont do any damage. ive noticed that they pick at the corals a bit when they first go in, but after about 3 days they completely leave them alone.. i guess they get sick of them.

I have a lobo like the bottom one in that pic. Are you feeding it? Mine's a hungry lil buggar! Maybe it's too close to the lights? T5s can actually ba stronger than MH. Mine is on the substrate.

pufferpunk, your brain coral is a really nice colour! mine is a bit more dull, ill take some close up photos later tonight or tomorrow.


im in the process of moving all my livestock to the new 5x2x2 tank so i might make a tank journal thread in the marine tank forum :wink:

ill be updating it quite often, i just painted the cabinet and hood and it will be filled in around two weeks.

ill look forward to your opinions and advice!

oh i forgot to write this earlier:

the other night the coronata puffer jumped out of the tank!

he has been sleeping on the substrate (the valentini sleeps on the nori clip!). around 3am my boyfriend woke me up yelling that a fish had jumped out of the tank. (the tank is in our bedroom, about a meter away from the bed :mcfly: .. not my idea).

he could hear a flapping/puffing noise and had woken up thank god. we turned on the light and the puffer was on the carpet down the side of the tank. he quickly picked it up and put him back in the tank. he didnt move for a few seconds but then started swimming around.. he seems fine now.

it was a horrible experience but i think the puffer has learnt his lesson- he has stayed away from that corner now! the gap was only like 3cm wide i dont know how/why he tried to get through it. maybe he doesnt like his new home :cry:

What is the gap for? You may want to cover it with a piece of egg crate or something. I think I would have a heart attack if my puffer jumped out of his tank!
