skimmer modification

Post by The Bruce »

yes, yes i know, skilters are the pooest of the poo but i saw an article on the net that had a skilter modification with an airstone and 35mm film canister. Yet the explanation is less than a paragraph and there are two pictures. i do not know how a skimmer works and i have never put one together so if anyone knows about the skilter modification i greatly need your help because the skilter is noisy, makes bubbles all over the tank, and doesnt skim.......oh yeah and im not going for a 100 something dollar skimmer cus it's only a 20 gallon with one fish

From what I've heard about skimmers, the cheap ones are all pretty much crap.. but I've also seen plans to build your own if you are handy.

Sorry, no idea on the modification thing...

easiest trick go buy a lee air driven counter current skimmer they are 20 or 30 dollars, need an air pump, but if you buy a good to very powerful air pump you can pull alot more than any cheaply priced skimmer on the market, plus no outside bubbles if it is set up even remotely correct.

I used one on my 20 gallon forever before hooking it to a tetratec deep air pump and using it with a biggter cup on a 55 gallon for a friends tank.

br prepared to do some trimming. the 20-30 dollar one is made for 20-25 inch tall tanks so you will need basic sawing skills and about 5 minutes to make it all work.
