Brackish bottom feeders

Does anybody know of any brackish bottom feeders?

hmmm, i dont think their are any.... unless you qualify bumble bee gobies.

There is a species of catfish. The name alludes me at the moment, but it can go from freshwater to marine and does grow to a substancial size as an adult.

The common name is White-tipped Shark Catfish but they do grow very large... Some sources say 14" others say 18", but that's still a lot more catfish than most people realize.

On the other hand, like John suggested, my Bumblebee Goby acts a lot like a bottom feeder. He swirls around my F8 until something is dropped and he devours it instantly. Maybe a couple would help you out. But, then again you may have to feed more to ensure they get fed if you have other competitive fish. That could counteract your reason for having them there. That's what happens with my Cories and my ID shark.

I have a pair of black mollies that nibble on some of the algae in my mild brackish tank... and they get along with my F8. They are not in the league of pleco and otos but they do help and handle brackish well.

Nothing compares a razor blade and a magna float when it comes to cleaning algea in a brackish tank :15:

They are fast, constant swimmers, that could make a nervous wreck out of any puffer. They are also schooling fish.

In the end they are not suitable for aquariums, just like irridesent sharks... and a few other species...

Ghost Shrimp

Apparently there are at Least two species of ghost shrimp commonly sold in LFS and one is really from brackish waters.

Mine have done fine/great/normal/whatever in BW. I put some in for my puffers to eat a month ago, but they haven't bothered w/ them at all so far. Obviously that is not the norm tho =p

There are quite a few, Guppy on MFK suggested lots of oddball fish not commonly seen in the trade.

The real problem with brackish water species is that brackish isnt a popular tank choice and in turn we dont get the selection of brackish water fish that we have in SW and FW.

Brackish tanks arn't popluar due to not many people actually understanding wht brackish is. LFS advertise brackish as aquarium salt + water = brackish, not what it actually is. If a LFS carried a tank section of a brackish tank with descriptions of species, whats species are available etc it would be more popular in the hobby.
