New fahaka

Post by jread002 »

I've had my 2.5" fahaka for 6 days now. He ate on the second day. This week he's has ramshorn snails, bloodworms and raw shrimp. Didn't seem to like my sis shrimp. Going to get some black worms Wednesday. My worry is that he has found a spot he like at the back of the tank and stays buried 95,% of the day. Besides the first day I put him in his 125g I haven't seen him come more than 2 inches off the bottom of the tank. From Alot of pics I've seen of other fahaka's mine seems almost whited out, not sure if it has to do with the white sand I have and him trying to blend into the environment. I don't have any caves but there are plenty of areas he can hide behind. Could that be the problem? How many eye sized snails should I be feeding him a day when he gets snails?

Would post pics but site says there all to big
Not sure if I'm worrying to much and I need to give him more time to adjust or if there's something wrong. His poop is black and chunky. Over the past few days I raised temp from 77 to 80 to see if he would become more active.
Tank parameters are great.
Ammonia 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 10
PH 8.0
I want to treat for parisites but I can't seem to find jungle fuzz anywhere. I use to use lavamisol on my cichlid's. I can get more but I just read that if dosing the tank and ph is higher than 7.0 it renders the meds useless. Can I use lavamisol on his food? Are other products just as good like fritz paraclense ,prazipri , or the tetra parisite med?
Not sure about the levamosil dosing for such a small fish, don't want him to od.
Any advice would really help, I've been keeping for for 10 years but I'm really worried about the little guy.could he just needs more time to adjust

You sound like a great pufferparent! I would get him a cave or 2. The more heavily decorated the tank, the safer he will feel & you'll see more of him.
