New Dp getting pushed around

Post by Scrap »

First off hello! I have been lurking on this site for some time soaking up all the great info that has been passed along. I am a former (10 long years ago) Figure 8 puffer hobbyist and a new (as of Sunday) Dwarf puffer owner. I did a fishless cycle in my 10 gal and once cycled to test the waters popped a neon in there about 3 weeks back, all has gone well. I purchased 2 juvenile DPs from my LFS Sunday. I did the first feeding today with bloodworms via tweezers but what I noticed is that my established neon actually bullied the puffers away from the food. They did get there fill but even 1 hour later it is chasing them off anytime they get near. I was wondering if this is a problem or if it will/may change once the DPs are comfy and established themselves. No fin damage has happened and I don't even know if the neon has the chops to do so... did my neon just grow up hard in the streets???

Thanks for the wealth of info on this site!

An established resident will always act the big fish until being shown it is not. Common with almost any fish. I would be more worried for the neons safety long term
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

Thanks, I thought that was the case. If the Neon starts getting bullied the LFS already said they would gladly take him back. Im thinking about some drift wood and maybe an amano shrimp or two as a clean up crew.
