How many Amazon/South American Puffers in 55 gallon?

Post by bigpuff »

How many Amazon puffers can I put in a 55 gallon? By the 15 gal per puffer rule I can fit 3, maybe 4, but I've read they do better in groups of 5 or 6. Would it be ok to put in 5 or 6 and overfilter the tank?

What I'm asking is, is filtration the only concern here or is there something else at play? They're fairly small so I would assume they'd still have enough swimming room.

I believe the rule of thumb is 15, for the 1st & theng for every extra one. So with enough decor, breaking up the lines of sight, you should be OK 29 with 5 of them & no tank mates.
