Update on f8 puffer.

I got all the decor for my 55 gal tank for my f8 puffer set up about 2 weeks ago but Taurus ( my f8 ) still kept glass surffing... Checked the water and everything was perfect. Also added some onion bulbs and they are doing great!! within a week they are already a foot tall and 2 stems off each. Well i had about 6 molly fry (about 1.5 inches big) in my freshwater comunity and well they were just getting too big for the tank so i decided to try them with Taurus. As soon as i put them all in the tank my f8 stopped glass surfing and joined the molly school exploring the tank... Ive had 1 molly fry with him the whole time i had him and they were always good friends but now i have 6 mollys and a f8 all schooling around my 55 gal.

Just goes to show that all puffers are different and seems like mine like the company of mollys.

He seems soo much happier with the mollys with him.

I do know that i am prob going to have a fin nipped or a death do to puffer but i am prepared for this just no room in community for all these mollys...

This is not the first time mollies have settled a puffer into an aquarium, some puffers seem to need dither fish to be comfortable

Yeah was just very suprized as most people say to keep puffers speices only. Adding mollys really seemed to help calm him and gave him some excitment to the tank.

Also the mollys are taking care of the overgrowing algae too.

Bonus lol. I have messed up my dosing on a new fert and now have hair algae grr, gonna flush out the new fert and stick to flourish from now on as I pretty much had it sussed with that

Eventually i want to make it fully live plants but for now i only have 3 onion bulbs started so i dont have to add fert yet luckly. What kind of plants do you find to grow well in brackish water?? i know they have the list on here and have looked at it but just wondering what you have found from your experience.

F8 puffer will destroy all your live plants, thats my experience..

yeah i saw your thread about it. so far he has left it alone and i am planning on slowly trying more and different plants to see what he likes/dislikes as you could say.

My F8 has only punched out a hole in 1 leaf of an anubias, nothing since. So imo, it's worth trying, plants are generally not that expensive anyway.

Tim, did you acclimatise the anubias slowly or plonk them straight in at 1.003? I have anubias and they are hardy little plants, one of mine has a flower on it now

They started at 1.000, then slowly upwards 0.001 a week. Mine mostly just have grain hair algae growing on it instead of flowers . My tap water seems ideal for algae growth. I do have a RO/DI unit but it takes day to full 1 bucket and I need 3 for a waterchange . But with planning a large reef tank comes a larger RO/DI unit. I'll just need to add a separate connection to the water pipes in the scullery.

I don't think the onion plant will tolerate much higher than that.
