UpDate On New Babie's.

Post by river-7 »

Just wanted to give you all an update on the 2-new dp's. Thumbalina and Thimble. They are both doing well and weaving in and out of their plants. So i started to treat for ip's and was a little afraid they would not eat the med;No fear of that they both had 2-worms each and another that each had an end of, and met in the middle of the worm. Very cute.So now I will treat 4-more days and these babies should be good.Just wanted to update you all.river

Good news, you're doing a great job with them!

Thanks PP; I try as i just love all puffs-i also have 2-gsp's and 1-f-8 and a fahaka[baby] and yes he's already in a big tank and has grown at least 1-1-2 inches since i have had him. I have had him approx; 7-weeks.all puffs in high end brackish, except for fahaka, and dwarfs. All doing exceptionally well.Eating playing and discovering everything to be found. And my fahaka, is on the lazy side once he eats he stops playing and sleeps.but begs a lot and i have to watch him as he will eat all the time if i gave it to him.But my little gsp-i think maybe she had been stunted before i got her as she don't seem to be growing at all. She is approx; 1-1/4 inch. and has not grown at all and she is in a 40-gal; by herself. And Lord knows she eats plenty -she eats more then my other one and just don't seem to grow any-i give her a varied diet, plus vita-chem[they all get that] she has been wormed and i don't see no signs of worms. Her colour is fantastic-very bright never gets dull. Just don't know why she doe's not grow.My other gsp has grown at least 1-size bigger then her and he eats less. Any info please would be a big help-river

The f8 should be in low brackish 1.003-1.005. Glad they are doing well
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

Bertie 83; Sorry that was a typo and when i noticed it-it was to late to delete. F-8 is in low end brackish and doing very well just beautiful colour and when i got her she looked washed out as was in f/w of course most puffs in canada are in f/w and they say what can you do as all they systems are f/w.And the mom and pop shop tells me they throw in a little salt.river

Observation about GSP's: (speculation) They will experience a growth spurt the sooner you get them to full marine salinities. With mine I have noticed that GSP's with large defined spots seem to grow faster than ones who have irregular small spot patterns. The former was only 3/4 of an inch long while the latter was 1 1/4 inch long. 8 months later the former is 3 1/2 inches long while the latter is 2 1/2 inches long. (yeah huge growth spurt from the little one) Both have been vitamin dosed and dewormed and carefully fed. Again this has been my observation with the ones I have but I had also read somewhere that others have made similar observations. I am guessing it depends on their native habitat and reigon of origin and the genetic adaptations associated with those specimens.
Of course stunting is never out of the question.

Well another update on new babies-they have been wormed and both are doing very well. And sinse i have found snails for them they are very happy campers just waiting in front of glass in the am. But they deff; prefer snails for breakfast and then will unhappliy take b/w's for their supper. I am feeding twice a day until they fatten up a little. They are a little to thin for me-so i will continue to feed twice a day until they bulk up a little. These lfs do not feed properly while they are in the shop and then we have to fix them at home. Oh, well they will fatten up soon enough. river
