How long had the tank been cycled?

I would start raising the sg now. By no more than 0.002 per week

That should be fine :)
It is absurd to talk of one animal being higher than another. We consider those, when the cerebral structure/intellectual faculties most developed, as highest. A bee doubtless would when the instincts were.

Were the fins nipped by each other? If so you may need to seperate them. Add some melafix to aid healing and keep up the water changes.

Use Mealfix for quick healing of nipped fins.

Aggression can be often linked to boredom or being in a smaller tank, do you have a large enough tank for the 2? Also many lines of broken sight and lots to explore? Full tank shot please.

Mix for 24 hrs or so before adding. The melafix will sort them in no time at all
