Bumblebee Gobies

Post by Radioactive »

Hi all !!!

Last night I put 4 small BBG's in my 29G tank. They did great in the transition and did not seem stressed at all. Today it seems they are glass surfing up and down alot and was wondering if this was normal. I built a huge slate structure 13 inches wide and 12 inches tall from slate tile specifically for these little buggers. This structure contains about 5 or 6 mini caves and they dont even seem all that interested in it. They seem to like surfing hte glass more then the cave. I also have large peice of malaysian driftwood thats about 14 inches wide and 10 inches tall. The sand substrate has about 8 single stems of anacharis randing from 3 inches to 11 inches in height. Will they stop surfing? I dont mind but want to make sure i have enough decor for them. Sometimes they will just sit on the bottom and they had their first feeding today in which they gobbled some bloodworms. Thanks for reading. You guys are awesome!!

They will soon calm down and settle into their caves, give them a few days
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

Mine spend most of the "lights on" time cruising around the tank at all levels. Especially after a WC everybody is out and surfing the glass in groups. If you check out the two vids I posted in your other thread you'll see how much they cruise about the tank.

My 12 BBGs have their own 46g and they occupy the entire tank. These 12 include 4 fry from my very first spawning. My fish store will finely be placing an order tomorrow for 6 more.

If your fish are really small then you may need to place them in a separate tank so they get enough to eat and also learn to eat what you are offering. You will probably need to cut the bloodworms in pieces (4ths) or they may be too large. Either way you will also probably need to use a pair of forcepts to drop the food (bloodworms) above and near them. A syringe with a piece of rigid airline attached is good for blowing food in front of them as they may be more enticed by the movement. It is also good for sucking food back up and trying again. I think some people also use a turkey baster type tool to do the same. http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk16 ... CI0150.jpg

It may be a good idea to shut the filter off at feeding time too.
There are many knowledgeable fish keepers on this forum willing to help and give great advice...The advice is free; What you choose to do with it gives it value.

Ill keep that in mind. Today (first feeding) I gave my F8 some clam on a half shell Then fed the gobies the bloodworms. I had my father watching with me and we confirmed they all got some food. I did have a few worms left over and wish I was recording it because my 2 ghost shrimp stole a bloodworm from the gobie. Within 3 minutes or so there was no bloodworms to be found. I have 2 filters on it and feel like the worms floating by them made them jump at it. I will keep trying different things as time goes on. When I put the clam in they didnt want to go after it on the shell but were trying to get peices my F8 had torn off. Thanks again
