Coral compatable with puffer.

I was wondering what coral would be compatable with a juvenile S&S puffer, I assume that I cannot keep soft corals.

Actually I think soft corals are your best bet as they taste horrible to the puffers

I agree: leathers, xenia & possibly zoanthids/palys.

realy? because when I got my live rock, there were about 20 soft wavy corals that were all eaten within 24 hours! I am not sure why Nugget ate them all because I noticed that the area around his mouth had gone a slightly paler colour and almost seemed slightly inflamed, I can only assume this was due to the aneomes stinging him because his mouth returned to normal within a week??

the thing is I am only looking for coral that looks good, preferably brightly coloured and vibrant ones

+1. Good looking corals will get nipped at by inquisitive puffers( eaten)

With the right setup, it might be possible (although difficult) to house a puffer in the display and corals in the sump if you have space down there. The stand would only display the coral area and block out all the ugly equipment.

Easier to keep a reef tank with only reef safe fish and critters. Peace of mind.

So far, my valentini is leaving ALL my corals alone, even LPS & SPS.

My puffers don't touch these: they sting.

Also very carnivorous, so handy for all the bits the puffers leave.

Pictures don't really do justice as the arms move with the water flow, grab pieces of fish, artemia, etc and the small arms near the butt/ mouth are day-glo yellow.

Not corals but give a similar effect.

This coral (name : no clue) is not touched by my puffers. I also feed it mussels and food the puffers leave. In the centre of each round of fingers is a mouth and they twist towards the flesh and eat, swelling up. Seems to create spit bubbles when hungry or smells fish/crustacean meat, I think digestive juices.

Had it on light-only and whatever the water brought, was shrinking. Dropped some mussel on it by accident and thought wow! Now a very happy coral cleaning up some of my puffer waste.

Have had some soft corals in that mainly live on photosynthesis, so far untouched. Sorry, don't know the names again

I would not put ANY fish with a tube anemone, they are fish killers/eaters!
