Update on Button (DP)

Post by Phoenix91 »

I haven't been on the forum in a while, so i figured i'd come and post an update.

This is Button:
button 1.JPG
He's like most other DPs, although he might be the most suspicious DP in the world.

This has been Buttons tank for almost a year:
20g.JPG
(please ignore the awful b/g cyano, it's just a nightmare)

Last weekend there was a catastrophic failure of my biocube nano reef, the bottom cracked along the diagonal, so all the inhabitants (rock and corals) of that tank are now in a plastic tub in my living room. I am very short on cash right now so i decided Button is going to be evicted and moved into a shiny new 10 G. Bought that tank this morning and it's sitting doing a leak test now.

I think he'll like the 10 G, he's always very wary in the 20 when he gets into the open spaces, the lighting isn't great for growing plants so they're not getting tall as fast as he'd like.

I will be moving him this afternoon and will post pics when the move is complete.

Yeah they do and i've been trying and failing with this tank being planed for ages so i'm hoping that a smaller tank with different lighting will finally get his home to grow out a bit. Also going to try and get him some cherry shrimp as friends/snacks. I've been asking my lfs to get me some for ages and they still haven't, might just order them online.

He really is! Sorry about the algae you're dealing with, it sucks. I hate, possibly loathe the b/g cyano! it's so ugly.

Nearly there...
photo (57).JPG
To make the process faster i planted and arranged before the water even looked like this, it was like 'scaping through mud :S

Who knows what it'll turn out like. When it's clear-ish i'll stick Button back in and maybe change out a few gallons just to make sure it's clean.

Yeah here is my little bugers in a heavily planted 10G tank with driftwood and slate rock. I bet yours is not happy with the renovations huh? :o

I must agree they always seem to have the most intriguing expressions on their face when they look at you.

If you can find a LFS with some Java Moss or Shrimp Grass do get some as mine love to hide in that stuff!

I've tried to find java moss at the 3 lfs,no one ever seems to have it in. I might be placing another online order with sweet aquatics soon since the tank is still looking a bit bare. I'm hoping now that it's under better light the java ferns i have in there will take off.

Button is not a happy camper. He doesn't mind being put in a bucket so much but it's the part where i'm lifting him in the jug to move him around that he hates. I just put him in the new tank, it's still a bit murky but at least it's warmer than his bucket. He's swimming all over, investigating everything. He'll settle down.

Button is so cute! I believe he is a female, though. I could tell you for sure with more pictures.

Great tank!

You might well be right, how can tell if Button is male/female? I have more photos
photo (47).JPG
photo (48).JPG

photo (53).JPG
So here's the new tank:
photo (59).JPG
On it's stand (yes, that is a biocube stand, RIP lovely biocube :( ) and that stupid looking tub on the floor is my reef tank in a tub.
photo (58).JPG
The tank is still a little cloudy so the photos aren't great, plus that huge bright spot in the middle is cycled media (for emergencies) that was attached pretty out of sight in the 20 g but might not have a place in the 10. I'll have to see, but i'm going to leave it there for now just to make sure this tank is cycled properly.

I decided to add a background which i've never done before. I thought it might make him feel less like he's out in the open so much. So far i like it.

She is as cute as a... Button!

I know, that was bad, but she is totally adorable. I hope you weren't really set on her being a male.
