old hand at marine, new to puffers

hey guys, i have been keeping marines for a while and have kept everything from NPS corals to jawfish but never a puffer...

i hope to change this
ATM i run a 50g system (Uk so 175 lt) with a deltec mce600 (overkill i know) that is the home to lawrence the snowflake eel. i will in a few years be upgrading to 100-150g cube as lawrence will need a bigger pad and i was wondering what kind of puffer may be suitable to grow on for said tank.

i quite like tobies but prefer the flat face of the true puffers but any suggestions would be great.

i will be stocking some softies and macros (my true coral passion is NPS but i have a seperate tank for those) so i am guessing that most puffers dont eat softies?

also will a puffer live with a lionfish? i am thinking not due to the nippy nature of them but its worth asking

The eel will be way to large to keep with a toby. Should do great with a DF.

OK so i think some kind of DF is the way i am going to go, are they all cream and black or is there other morphs (same species different colour)

also diet i am guessing is gonna be shrimpy stuff, shell stuff and small fish? (all from freezer packs)
now i have a fair few hermits and turbo snails in my tanks, i am presuming that this will not likely survive? or is it a case of they will vanish if the puffer gets peckish?

My favorite is the Dalmatian one. Lots of different species but be sure to get one that stays on the smaller size, 1' or under.

But that is only personal opinion. I don't like the look of Dog Faced puffers.


No small fish in their diet ... hard shelled mollusks should be the staple.

Strange question... since this is your first puffer... why not go with a Green Spotted? Green Spotted are easily accessible, very personable and will tolerate full marine.

Or will the eel be a problem also?

my eel can be a bit nasty so i wanted something that would be big enough that it didnt look like food.

so frozen clams for food?

lovely thanks PP i can get all that frozen stuff easily enough (have most of it infact lol)

right now how often do you feed your puffers, sorry for all the questions but i really like to research alot before i do anything.
