Puffer Jumping
Will a gsp normally try and jump out of the tank. I would like to get rid of my eclipse hood and put a new light fixture and filter on the tank... But i want to the leave the top open because the lights will be sitting on top..

jumping is not normal unless there is something scarring it....

I've lost 2 F8s & recently my beautiful bluespot to the carpet. MUST have a good, tight top on there!

Re: Puffer Jumping
I've found my GSP on the floor in the morning once. He was still alive though, I've put heavy towels over all the holes in my cover.
No puffers on the floor since.
Something must have freaked him out during the early morning, a sound perhaps, he is afraid of the dark
. I've bought a moonlight bulb for it though

Re: Puffer Jumping
I don't know why but puffers always get scared when dark, i use to work from 10 pm to 2 am, and i always hear puffers jumping... weird... but my tank is hermetically sealed (to prevent salt evaporation) so they have never jump out of it...
Puffs are adorable, they are like 5 years old kids (with powerful teeth).

Re: Puffer Jumping
My puff doesn't get freaked out at night, but she jumps when she knows she's getting fed. a LOT. she works herself into such a frenzy that she sometimes doesn't even notice the food once it's been dropped in, she just keeps jumping at the top.
Kids have pretty strong teeth, too... I work at a daycare and I've learned to start asking them to take toys/mulch out of their mouths as opposed to reaching in there myself, hahaha.RVS wrote:Puffs are adorable, they are like 5 years old kids (with powerful teeth).

Mine used to jump, now he just splashes and spits at me
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly
