Sump

The pump that bring the water back to the tank, it is a powerhead right and also how do you know what size powerhead you need. i am making a 30g tank then 20g sump.

I believe powerheads are for circulation only. A more sturdy pump is needed for this application. Someone more informed will chime in soon I am sure. Rtr mentioned about something like this in a recent post, can't remember exactly what was said though.
It's amazing how easy maintenance is. If done regularly and thoroughly

What can i put in the sump besides live rock.

You can put Macroalgae in there

do i need the bio stuff for it or is that the live rock.

What does live rock look like when it is not live anymore?

All you need to grow macroalgae as far as I know is 24hour light.

From my understanding dead LR will have lots of black slimey looking stuff on it. Unless its been dead for a really really long time then its all white

Whatever fits under your tank. Should be a minimum of 1/3 the water volume of your tank. Have you checked the site I gave you for this?

Yea I did I learn a way to cycle. Can u really do that? Throw a raw shrimp in the tank.
