Well it finally happened! I caught her in the act. I looked up and there was my baby girl half inflated! It only lasted about 5 seconds and I almost missed it. This was the very first time I have ever seen Annabelle puffing. Sorry I didn't have time to get a pic. At the time I wasn't sure if she was inflating or deflating. I looked up and bam! I had my camera in hand but before I could turn it on it was over. I'm so proud of her right now. lol I think she just woke up and decided to stretch a bit. The lights on the tank are still off and there was nothing around the tank to spook her. Maybe she was just jealous of Elvis getting all the attention and wanted to show me that she could do it too. Unfortunately it was only half awesome. Maybe she won't wait over 2 years to do it again. I'll be ready next time!

She just puff form the nothing?? hahaha marine puffers do it all the time but in FW puffers is kinda weird hahaha she want your attention!!!

I read a thread somewhere else of that actually happening, but the fish recovered with melafix/pimafix. Glad you got to see your puffer inflate. It seems like they do it just for fun sometimes.

Well Elvis (stars & stripes) does it all the time. Annabelle (fahaka) has never "been caught" doing it. I think Elvis told her: Go ahead and do it! Do it now! She's not looking.....hurry up! lol
This was a very exciting moment at the house this morning. I was starting to think she didn't know how to inflate.
My Puffers: 1 GSP (Microfiche) RIP, 1 Monotrete Turgidus (Leon) in a 30gal. 1 Monotrete suvattii in a 40 gal FW. 120 gallon BW with 3 juvenile Dragon Gobies (so cool). 55 gal with a 2" GSP named Hank. 180 gallon being set up for a Fahaka in the next few months!
Way to go Annabelle! Practice puffs are so fun to see, Marc Anthony (my arrowhead) does it once in a while, especially when he's hungry!

Bought as a leiurus, maybe a turgidus (Tiger), 1x c. irrubesco (Tott(a) aka Houdini) 1x c. salivator (Jack the Ripper), 1x m. cochinchinensis (Hufflepuff - R.I.P.), 2x c. lorteti (Tommy and Tigern = Calvin and Hubbes), 1x m. suvatti (Koseklumpen), 1x m. palembangensis (Dragonfly), 2x t. biocellatus (Koken and Fiken).
FW puffers are so funny when they puff. Most of them don't like us humans to watch them when they puff! I remember when Dragonfly (palembangensis) puffed. When she saw me, she quickly deflated, and then prenteded she had done nothing. Nooo thing at all...

Anytime I've caught one of my puffers puffing up, it has been in the late evening or middle of the night, and never when I'm right next to the tank. But then some puffers puff when they're hungry, as stated above.

I've only seen Balki puff once, and like you, I couldn't grab my camera fast enough. He looked like a tiny round cactus poof, and when he saw me, he deflated while swiiming quickly upward and away and he looked just like when someone blows up a balloon and lets it go .
