would this tank minus the plants be ok for a fig8 in your opinions? is there too much going on? i am fed up of just having the fish i have and want a new puff, its not big enough for a gsp unfortunately
. It will be just the fig8 maybe a couple of bbgs. my lfs has some really healthy fig8's and i want one tomorrow lol

Re: figure 8 setup
what size is that tank?
IMO a tank cant be to busy, unless there is just no swimming room lol. The more stuff the more there is to explore and keep em busy. Also you could do some silk plants to replace the live ones(assuming they are alive)

Decor-wise, I think an F8 would be very happy in there. Lots to explore! Mine check out absolutely everything in their tank, swimming through the holey rock and into and out of the caves I provided.

Re: figure 8 setup
they are live plants and will be removed for the transition to brackish. there is still lots of swimming room at the front. It is 90l so like 20 us gallons. The only obstruction is the holey rock at the side which he can easily swim round. so i would be ok to pick one up tomorrow?

Re: figure 8 setup
The ample swimming room at the front will be fine because he'll be the only puffer in the tank, so you don't really need to worry about broken sightlines. He'll probably enjoy the extra swimming room, and there's plenty of stuff in there to keep him occupied. Go for it!

Re: figure 8 setup
Bummer! There's nothing worse than getting yourself all psyched up to buy a particular fish, and then it's gone when you get there. I've had that happen before.
Now I keep an empty 10 gallon in a closet. If I see a fish I absolutely must have, and I know I can make room for it at home but need a few days to get stuff set up, I buy the fish and pop it into the 10 gallon for quarantine. It buys me a few days to round up the equipment needed to house the fish permanently. Of course, this wouldn't work on extremely large fish.
Sorry you missed out on your F8!!!

Re: figure 8 setup
i have spare tanks but refuse to put fish in to a newly started tank, and moving many filters about is a pita. I have been wanting one for a long time and have just waited but now cant wait. The lfs i went to has always stocked them for about the last 8mths consistently . Just my luck they dont have any. The tank still has fish in as i will move them as my gsp moves in. Still bought marine salt whilst i was there though lol. Have an early finish tomorrow so may nip to another shop and see what they got. Have fallen for the ceylons though but want to move before i go marine.

Re: figure 8 setup
Would about 2mnths in this setup be bad for a 2" ceylon? I assume it would grow to approx 3 inch in this time? And lmao i put gsp in my last post instead of f8 lol. I am all over the place on my new puff to be

That's the beauty of the big water change, though. A QT tank with 90% daily water changes doesn't need to be cycled.bertie 83 wrote:i have spare tanks but refuse to put fish in to a newly started tank, and moving many filters about is a pita.
