Earthquake
So who all felt today's earthquake? I did it here, first earthquake ever for me.

felt here too, first for me as well lol. apparently it was a 5.8 in virginia felt up and down the east coast

Earthquakes can actually be kindof fun if the architecture holds up and you are used to them. When I lived in Japan there were an at least once a week occurance, usually 3.0-6.0. People would stop, pull their cars over, etc., and when it was over, life went on as usual.

I was napping and slept through it undisturbed.
At my wife's office, the glassed in conference room down the hall lost a big widow t a full-length crack. They had to evacuate for a bit, Some of the schools had some damage (teachers and staff are there, students are not yet), but the extent is not fully known.
My nephew (Central VA), just north of the epicent was in a car at a light and felt it. His older sister (on a ridge) was at home and the beams creaked and the dishes in the csbinets rattled. His other sister was at his house -in the valley- and felt or heard nothing.
We had a lighter shock a year or so ago.

I definitely felt it last summer, but this time around I didn't feel it at all -- though some people felt it on the 9th floor at work. I live on the 17th floor of a building, and when I came home, a 1.5 inch hairline crack in my 46 bowfront (which I had every intention of mending... at some point... oops...) had developed into a leak, slowly putting saltwater all over the floor.
All I have to say is a) I have a new appreciation for the use of styrofoam under tanks and b) thank god for GFI outlets.
A little stupidity led to a lot of frustration. And an earlier-than-anticipated upgrade. Sigh. My Ceylon, rocks and corals seem to be okay in heated and water-circulated rubbermaid bins for now while I cart away the old tank and start filling the new 90.
