today is a great day for me and my puffer=]

Post by volcomkrew4life »

So over the past 2 months I've had a bad nitrite problem. It seemed like nothing I ever did was working. I literally tried everything possible and even after I would do 80% water changes and test right after doing them the nitrites would still be in harmful levels. Never any ammonia though and nitrates were always perfect. It was driving my crazy! So the other day I did a 40% water change just like I was doing every 3 days or so and tested after and the nitrites were exceptionally low. I was really happy but figured it wouldn't last for long. Well I just tested the water and THE NITRITES ARE ZERO!!! I'm so happy. I have no idea what was causing the problem but whatever it was it's gone now. Thank god lol. I raised the salinity a little bit when I did the water change yesterday so maybe that had something to do with it? I have no idea, I just hope the nitrites didn't do any permanent damage to my little green spotted puffer and now he can begin his long happy life in nice, nitrite free water=]

You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Hey Pufferpunk, he never showed any signs of even a slight case of nitrite poisoning. Think he'll be good from now on? Or is there a chance of him becoming sick like in the future from the exposure to nitrite for that long?

I struggled with nitrite at 5+ for 2 weeks, until I found that rotting corpse. I think the water changes saved them.

So those fish that were exposed to your 5+ nitrite levels are still alive and well? How long ago was that?

I kept them for about another 5 years after that.
