Monotrete Palembangensis/ dragon puffer thoughts

I see that one is on sale at Aquabid. It is pickup only and is in my city.

What are your thoughts on this puffer species? Is it a complete lurker... does it respond to its owners during feeding time? Any interesting facts beyond the basics on the pufferpedia?

I have only kept one, but I really liked the fish. they are not very active, but when hungry may roam around a bit if there is a chance of food being available (I kept a couple of Ghost shrimp and several medium to largish ramshorn snails in the tank at all times).

I also used frozen/thawed/vitamin soaked silversides on threads as feeders. That was the only time they were interactive with me.

When the fish was atop one of its bogwoog "caves" I would try the silversides - sometimes they were consumed and sometimes ignored. At times the fish would move (slowly, very slowly) around its moderately planted but shady tanks in apparent (?) food tracking or searching.

They are very strange-looking critters, fascinating to me. I would love to try to breed these fish..

Mine is always hiding in one of two spots in its tank. The only time it moves around is when it has its weekly freak-out after I do a water change where it races around the tank and does its best to soak me by splashing me with water to show its displeasure.
Other than that, I see bits of it though the side of it's log cave and through the plant stems in the back corner.

Water partials never spooked mine. I don't understand why they upset yours. Any ideas/thoughts on why the hyperactivity?

Hmmm, no idea. I do know that sometimes I'll come back home from work and know it's had a very active day because things in the tank have been moved around.

I've tried several different ways of cleaning the tank but all of them seem to aggravate it so I try to be as gentle and quiet and unobtrusive as possible.

I have one M palembang, Named "Rotor", its my favourite puffer, hes a lurker alright...and during daytime hes usally chilling in hes cave, just watching my family dogs and the rest of us... Hes almost like a pet "Dog" he got attitude and loads of personality...

But when the evening come,and the lights go dim, he change personality and become a hunter, meaning he become moore active and swim around looking for food. When hes a hunter he can be quite agressive, its amazing who explosive this puffer is when hunting... Hes everybodys favourite puffer
