Hey Guys
I'm gona buy a skimmer but was wondering how long it would take to work as the SW tank is brand new. Will I have to wait untill there's some scum in the water?

If you have LR, there will be metabolites in the water it will pick up from the critters living in there. What brand did you decide on?.

Mine is a TMC VSkim 400, which I have in the sump of a 55 gallon tank. It took about 5-6 days to "bed in" & start pulling out all the gunge!

Yes, the TMC can be hung on the tank - just doesn't look great (IMO). That rock looks too good to hide in the filter. Can you use it in the tank & get some live rock rubble for the filter?

Start running it immediately. Mine took about a week to start taking liquidy (nice english hey?) stuff out of the water.... And about a month to quiet down a start removing thicker "gunk".

2 - 4 weeks. Do you have any live stock? Because all skimmers are a bit oily when they first start out and it's best if they're run early on, IMHO.

Yeah it takes about a week to break in and start collecting.
