I just bought 2 new gsps. The lighting was bad at the store, but when I got them home I put them in a quarantine tank, to look them over and get them adjusted to brakish water.
There tales are not looking so great, but I read to use melafix to help with fin regrowth. I know when they are coming from an extremely overpopulated tank it is likely that their fins may be damaged. I think their tales will be okay.
The problem: I can see their black spots just fine, but they also have like well it's hard to describe, I think hey kind of look like brown spots. The spots are kinda hard to see. I had me bf look at them and told him to describe it for me. He said they look dirty.
I really don't want to add sick fish in with my healthy little puffer (Baltazar). How can I make them better?
What do you think? velvet?

Since this board has been up, we have found there are several questions that routinely get asked in order to help diagnose problems. If you can have that information to begin with in your post, we'll be able to help right away (if we can!) without having to wait for you to post the info we need.
1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate). This is by far the most important information you can provide! Do not answer this with "Fine" "Perfect" "ok", that tells us nothing. We need hard numbers.
2) Tank size and a list of ALL inhabitants. Include algae eaters, plecos, everything. We need to know what you have and how big the tank is.
3) Feeding, water change schedule and a list of all products you are using or have added to the tank (examples: Cycle, Amquel, salt, etc)
4) What changes you've made in the tank in the last week or so. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.
5) How long the aquarium has been set up, and how did you cycle it? If you don't know what cycling is read this: Fishless Cycling Article and familiarize yourself with all the information. Yes. All of it.
We want to help, and providing this information will go a LONG way to getting a diagnosis and hopeful cure that much faster.
While you wait for assistance:
One of the easiest and best ways to help your fish feel better is clean water! If you are already on a regular water change schedule (50% weekly is recommended) a good step to making your fish more comfortable while waiting for diagnosis/suggestions is to do a large water change immediately. Feel free to repeat daily or as often as you can, clean water is always a good thing! Use of Amquel or Prime as a dechlor may help with any ammonia or nitrite issues, and is highly recommended.
Note - if you do not normally do large water changes, doing a sudden, large water change could shock your fish by suddenly changing their established water chemistry. Clean water is still your first goal, so in this case, do several smaller (10%) water changes over the next day or two before starting any large ones.

They may display that paler coloration when stressed, or frightened. Are their bellies dark? It was very smart of your to QT them. I'd leave them there for about a month to be sure they are healthy, before adding to another healthy fish.

The one's belly is real dark sometimes when I walk over there. When I stand there a min it turns back to white. Do some of them get dark bellies when they sleep?
Their fins are also looking dark. From what I have read I thought their fins were supposed to stay clear. I have that stuff in there that is supposed to help their fins grow back, will that change the color of their fins? They are also not eating. I am going to try frozen krill tonight. Hopefully they will eat it. They ate the first night. One of them is looking really thin and the other still looks round.
I hope they get healthy. I think maybe the stuff I talked about in the original post was just them being all beat up. I think those spots are looking a little better.

2) Tank size very small. 2 fish in 2 tanks. I have a 75 gallon I want to put them in, but i have a healthy gsp in there.
small tank one: 6.3 liter
small tank two: smaller than small tank 1
3) Feeding: they ate on the 17th when i got them. I had them both in the 6.3 liter and it was way to small. They ate some of a TetraCichlid Jumbo Stick that 1st night.
The second day I went and got them snails, I don't think they had ever had them. One of them ate them, because they disappeared. I did not see it.
Second night: I put the 2 puffers in separate tanks figuring they would be happier and they were. The water was all taken from my 75 gal tank.
I put Bio Coat in the water and added some Melafix for their fins.
I use Instant Ocean salt.
4) Every thing has been in the last week.
5) My 75 gal has been set up since the beginning of January. There are only under gravel filters in the small tanks, but I used the water from my 75 gal.

1.5g & <1.5g. This isn't going to end well... They'd be better off in a 5g bucket, with 80% 2x daily water changes.

Problem I've spotted is that putting them in water from an established tank does nothing to establish the biofilter in their new tanks and UG filters take a long time to establish on their own. I would transfer them to larger quarters asap and add a HOB filter with some media from the 75 gal tanks filters.
