Sorry got the shutter bug lately

Awesome looking shrimp! They have some at my LFS... I wonder how they would do with DPs? I mean, they are at least 3x as big as they will ever be.

I would not trust the DPs with the shrimp. Plus those beasts like/need pretty good current and strong plants, which may bot be the best for the DPs. Like pairing Clydesdales and hummingbirds.

Ive always wanted a few of these, but here they are like 10-15 bucks each and non of my tanks have a strong enough current

Those look the same as the ones my LFS and Walmart sell as Wood Shrimp. Both sell for around $10 a shrimp. What do they run in Canada?

Yes fan shrimp are also known as wood shrimp.

I have never seen them at an LFS here. I got them as hand me downs. The owner thought they were Amano shrimp.

So how many "hand-me-downs" did you get from your friend? Would be cool if you could breed them.... they are really fun to watch (in my opinion).

There were 2 sets.
1 set I got when I bought the snail breeder set up. Those included the guppies, and the shrimp.
The other set was from a co-workers friend which was a pleco, 2 angles, 1 guppy and 1 platty. All of the fish in the 2nd set have since been re-homed (or died).

They would be nice to breed but difficult for me (at best). Especially since I can't tell male from female.. so I'd need a lot of them

Unfortunately, all of the fan shrimp (there are multiple species) reported so far have SW planktonic stages, so captive breeding is similar to that of Amano shrimp. It is possible but a major effort.

The full sized dominant Bamboo/wood/donkey/Singapore shrimp males are rusty red, very striking. I only see a lot of that with their tank downstream of a daphnia/cyclops refugium tank
