Puffer alone (HELP!)
So by next christmas my family wants to go on a 2 week trip to florida. What should I do. My puffer can't survive that long on its own. I know of no one to bring him to.

I go to Mexico every year for 2 weeks,...I have a friend come by and feed my fish every few days.

Yep, my lil ole next door neighbor stops by every 3 days & drops in the pre-measured food I leave for her.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

Re: Puffer alone (HELP!)
not sure if I know anyone who could do that, but I will check. What about a fish store. I know a fish store owner who has some experience with salt water. I could leave him there, possibly.

I don't recommend transferring him to another tank,...very stressful. Easier to get someone to come to your house.

Re: Puffer alone (HELP!)
Ya moving him will only stress him out really bad, maybe you could pay the store own a few bucks and they could stop by and feed him for you(if you feel you can trust him in your house)

Re: Puffer alone (HELP!)
I've seen automatic fish feeders before. Never tried one though. Do they work? Could I set it to feed freeze dried krill every few days?

I've never used one....they probably would work. Not sure if I would trust it for 2 wks or leave the aquarium un-supervised for that long either.
It is easier and safer to get someone to come and feed.

I know my LFS will come feed and check my tanks for a fee. So far I haven't had to do that yet but I would much rather do that then leave my tanks unattended for two weeks.

Re: Puffer alone (HELP!)
Check with local vet offices. We use professional pet-sitters and walkers for dogs, who are also semi-pro fish sitters. They work as vet techs during the day. The owner of the LFS is their back-up, as some of my tank set-ups are fairly complex. He at least knows enough to trouble- shoot any equipment issues and how to operate the back-up generator(s) if needed.
