Hi from TX

Post by pufferpal »

Hello forum! My name is Yvonne, and Im fairly new to puffers. We only have one puffer atm, a green spotted puffer, although i love them and wish we could have a few more, but they arent very social LOL. I had always wanted a puffer, but never got one for whatever reasons. Last spring, a customer at work mentioned that she wanted to get rid of her GSP cause it was eating all her other fish, so she asked if i would take it, i said sure! Ill admit i didnt know anything about how to take care of them, and i had no clue what my puffer was when i first got it, but it was adorable and i really wanted to keep him and get him to thrive here. My poor little puffer has been through alot LOL. The lady told me to feed it flakes and it lived in FW, so thats what i did. A few days later, he looked like he was gonna die, he was floating upside down and everything, do i hopped online and finally figured out what it was, and how to take care of it. We went out and bought some marine salt and little by little upped the salinity and started feeding him correct foods, and he immediately got better, thankfully. Ever since then, hes been great, except he eventually ate alot of my mollies, before he was switched to his own tank. Now he is in a 70gal tank by himself, which im hoping i can change sometime soon (im researching trying to figure out if theres anything we can put with him before we buy anything). He put on lots of weight since i got him and his colors look nice and vibrant. He does have a kink in his back, but it has never slowed him down, im not sure what happened, but he came to me that way.

Other than that, we have 2 FW tanks, one is a livebearer tank with some mollies, a trio of guppies and a few baby platties, and some ghost shrimp. The other is a heavily planted angelfish/discus/black skirt tank. Angels are by far my fave fish, im always on the lookout to find something "unique" to maybe add to that tank. The most amazing angel i have right now is a blue angel that was CB in Taiwan and shipped to TX, at least thats what i was told. Nothing beats a group of nice adult angels! We also keep several reptiles, mostly boa constrictors, and a few other random types of pets. Anywho, ill attatch some pics of some of our fish, hope you enjoy!

Hello there! Im fairly new to puffs myself. We have Figure 8s.. brackish. I cant believe that lady didnt tell you that GSPs are SW! Ugh! Poor little thing. Anyway Im glad you saved him! GSPs are notorious fish eaters... Ive never had one but you can do some research on this site as to what fish would be safe. Wow a 70 Gal! Thats one happy fish Ill bet. Hmm I cant see the pics either!

Thanks for the welcome! Are the pics working now? My husband had to go in and fix a few things on our online gallery but he says they should be working now :?

i want to! Thats one of the reasons i joined this forum, i was hoping to get some input on others' experiences on what to keep these fish with. This guy likes to eat everything, but i have never kept him with corals or anything of that nature. What all has everyone kept their GSP's with?

thanks, the blue angel is the coolest fish! When we get a bigger tank for those fish im gonna see if i can order like a dozen of them LOL. Right now its only a 55gal :( He has gotten some size on him too, i cant wait to see what he looks like when hes full size. He has a beautiful body shape too, its really round compared to all the other angels we have had that came from American breeders. These pics were taken today (at feeding time, thats why theres a bunch of stuff floating around):

I got mine from the Fish Gallery in Dallas, its an awesome fish store in the area, they also have a location in Houston, not sure if you live near those areas or not. They ordered them, and i just happened to be there to see them before they sold out. Im thinking they can probably get them in again, at least thats what im hoping. I believe i saw another breeder's website (this person is in the US, and they ship) also that had started to work with the blues. If i can find the website again ill give you the link. If you have never seen one in person, you will feel like screaming when you see one for the first time, they are UNREAL.
